A senior Congress leader today said stray dogs pose a serious threat to people and claimed that canines tend to attack children and other hapless domesticated cattle after finding them alone.
Punjab Congress Vice-President Satnam Singh Kainth claimed that stray dogs generally form a group and attack cattle and children, sometimes fatally, as they are the most vulnerable. He said the government is ignorant on the issue.
"If SAD and BJP leaders are serious on the issue then why have not a single step been taken by them. In some cities, the menace is such that people fear dogs more than terrorists and criminals. Dog terror needs to be tackled," he said.

He said that people have chosen the government to resolve their issues but the ruling coalition in the state is ignoring their plight.
"The dog menace has arguably become more dangerous than the drug problem. Chief Minister (Parkash Singh Badal) had convened a meeting on the issue on May 16, 2012 but the outcome of the meeting is not known," Kainth said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Rajat Kumar Mohindru, citing data of the World Health Organization, said every year 35,000 people die due to Rabies in India and according to a survey, 36 per cent of all Rabies-related deaths in the world takes place in India.
