A Punjab resident today moved the high court here challenging the constitution of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) and sought quashing of the Act by way of which it came into force.

Ram Singh Somal, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib district, filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court here challenging the HSGMC as "illegal" and sought quashing of the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Act, his counsel H S Batth said.

In his petition, Somal made references from the Constitution and contended that state has no power to constitute a separate SGPC. The only competent authority that can interfere into the matters related to legislation as per the Punjab Re-Organisation Act 1966 is the Centre, he said in his petition.

The petitioner's counsel claimed that the matter will come up for hearing next week.
