The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name the 'Post-Matric scholarship scheme' after Dr Bhim Rao Amedkar.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Commission chairman Rajesh Bagha said that naming the Post-Matric scholarship Scheme after him would be a befitting tribute to Dr Bhim Rao Amedkar on his 125th Birth Anniversary which will fall on April 14 next year.

"Baba Sahib fought throughout his lifetime for the education of the unprivileged and it was his vision that only education could become an instrument to change the society and to build a prosperous Nation," he said in his letter released to media here.

Meanwhile, Bagha commended the decision of Prime Minister to observe November 26 as the 'Sawidhan Diwas' and special lectures were to be delivered to the school children on the life and teachings of Bharat Ratna, Dr Bhim Rao Amedkar.

He said that this was the need of the hour that younger generation must be imparted knowledge about the life and teachings of Bhim Rao Amedkar so that a sense of universal brotherhood, amity and co-existence might be inculcated among them to curb nefarious designs of anti national elements.
