A day after a non-official Pakistani delegation met him, Punjab Assembly Speaker urged Indian and Pakistani governments to resolve disputes through peaceful means and bring people of the two countries together.
Charanjit Singh Atwal asked the two governments to remove hurdles barring the free cross-border movement of people, and sought that they should work together to promote co-operation, an assembly spokesman said today.
Atwal's remarks come after a 19-member non-official delegation from Pakistan, led by former Army officer Lt Gen Hamayun Bangash, met him yesterday, the spokesman said.
Atwal said that there was so much in common between the two nations that cultural ties could play an effective role in bringing people together.
He laid emphasis on promoting mutual social and cultural relations between the people of the two countries.
Meanwhile, Haryana Governor Jagannath Paharia said that such mutual exchange programmes should be frequently planned between the two nations.
