Punjab government will constitute Solid Waste Management Wings (SWMW) in local bodies to make cities garbage free and utilise the waste for power generation.

Taking stock of ongoing development projects at Amritsar in a meeting today, Chief Minister Badal said the state government was committed to form SWMW in the departments of local bodies to tackle the garbage problem.

He said SWMW will work with experts to find a lasting solution to the garbage problem.

The CM said the SAD-BJP government will not tolerate any damage to the green cover of the state at any cost. He also informed that they are going to establish horticulture wings in each district.

These wings will take up the work of planting saplings in place of the trees cut for the road-widening purpose, Badal added.

He said the state government will work to include Amritsar in the proposed 'Smart City' project of the Union Government so that it could witness all round development along with world class infrastructure.
