Punjab to distribute eucalyptus saplings free of cost

Punjab Government has decided to distribute eucalyptus saplings free of cost to growers, as part of its crop diversification programme.

Punjab Forest and Wildlife Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat said eucalyptus saplings will be distributed in all districts of the state.

He also appealed to farmers to send requisition for the plants to the concerned divisional forest officer or forest range officer.

The minister said interested farmers will be imparted technical training for planting of colonial eucalyptus plants.

He said, "As per the horticulture experts the colonial eucalyptus plants could be cultivated in every kind of terrain and soil and condition in Punjab is also conducive for the plantation of colonial eucalyptus."
 

Bhagat said the colonial eucalyptus gives yield three times more than the traditional eucalyptus plant prepared form seed.
