Punjab to launch disaster management plan for power supply

Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd (PSTCL) are all set to launch a disaster management plan to deal with any kind of natural calamities, sabotage or grid failures.

The plan is likely be launched by this December.

PSPCL and PSTCL responsible to generate, transmit, distribute and maintain electricity supply system in the state have devised a comprehensive disaster management strategy to make power available under all adversities to the citizens, a power department spokesperson said here today.

"The plan aims at restoration of power supply as quickly as possible, minimal damage to power infrastructure and achieving zero causality in case of natural or man-made disasters," he said.
 

Giving further details, the spokesperson informed that a team of technical experts, electricians and engineers would be given special training about steps to be taken during any eventuality.

He said as per the plan Punjab government has appointed nodal officers in all departments for better coordination in any kind of disaster and a Powercom team would also work in coordination with them.

All organisations of Powercom including generation, transmission, distribution and maintenance were interconnected and its vital infrastructure needs to be protected in case of natural calamities and disasters, the spokesperson said.

He said that in accordance with the state plan, Powercom would draw up mitigation, preparedness and response plans including capacity-building, data collection, assessing the damage from any disaster and carrying out rehabilitation and reconstruction of power supply and infrastructure.
