The Punjab government has decided to set up a state-run engineering college in Rupnagar district, Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said here today.
Talking to media persons here, Channi said that at present there was no government Engineering college in this region and the students are dependent on private colleges for technical education.
He said that 20 acres of land has been identified in Rupnagar for the purpose and acquisition process would start soon.

ITIs Morinda and Rupnagar would also be upgraded with better infrastructure, he said, stressing that skill development was priority of the Congress government so that youth can earn their livelihood.
He said that to provide employment to every youth, the state government had called 50,000 educated youth to job fair being organised in Mohali on September 5.
He said that Congress had promised to provide one job to every household.
Channi said that the Punjab government was working to develop a system where there will be no room for corruption and the state vigilance Bureau was after the corrupt elements in government.
He said that delivery of every service would be time bound.
