The Gujarat government has requested the Punjab government to take custody of 113 fishermen from Gujarat to be released by Pakistan, Gujarat Fisheries Minister Babubhai Bokharia said here today.

"This arrangement has been made since the Gujarat fisheries department team is not in a position to reach Wagah border today. The Gujarat team headed by Gujarat Fisheries Department official K B Thakar left Ahmedabad by train today and will reach Amritsar tomorrow evening (Saturday)," Bokharia said.

"After taking custody of these 113 fishermen at Wagah border today, the Punjab government will take them to Red Cross building premises located in Amritsar city and keep them there until the Gujarat Fisheries team takes over their custody on Saturday," he said.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan released 113 fishermen who spent nine months behind bars, in a goodwill gesture.
