'Punjabi Girl' wins main Hyderabad winter races

Three-years-Old, 'Punjabi Girl', ably ridden by F Sweeney, claimed the Alcock Arabian Million Cup, the last classic of the Hyderabad Winter Races held on the concluding day of the session here today.

The winner was trained by D Netto.

Trainers Arjun Anne and Sateesh scored a double, while Jockies Akshaykumar Scored a treble and F Sweeney scored a double.

Two first favourites obliged in a card of eight events.

The Stewards of Hyderabad Races club, however, decided to conduct two extra day races on March 1st (Thursday) and March 2nd (Friday).

Arjun Anne and AkshayKumar bagged the Champion Trainer and Champion Jockey trophies, respectively, during the Winter Racing Season which concluded here today.
 

Arjun Anne sent out 26 winners, while Akshaykumar piloted 48 winners during the session.

CP Boppanna, with nine wins to his credit, won the Champion Apprentice Jockey Trophy.

Dr M A M Ramaswamy Chettiar of Chettinad Charitable Trust represented by Dr A C Muthiah, with total stake money winnings of more than Rs 1.11 crore, emerged as the leading owner.

Col S B Nair, with a stake money winnings of more than Rs 56.31 lakh, was the leading individual owner, while the leading joint owners, who won over Rs 56.25 lakh, were Ashok Kumar Gupta, Berjis M Desai and Rakesh Jahunjhunwala.

Kaku Associates were the leading bookmakers with a field money of more than Rs 32.27 lakh.

Mahateji, with 13 points, was declared the Champion Horse, while Dream Catcher, with the five wins, was the horse of the season.
