Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) today lauded the decision to recommended coach Purnima Mahato for the prestigious Dronacharya award and said she was a deserving candidate because of her success with the Indian women's team at the international arena.
Long-serving coach Mahato, along with four others, was recommended for the Dronacharya award this year.
"There is no doubt that Purnima, a former Asian Grand prix gold medallist, deserved the award for her outstanding contribution to promotion and winning medal at international meets for years," L Murthy, Secretary of JAA, said.
Among others, Indian women archery team had won three individual and a team gold in the 2010 Commonwealth games, team bronze medal in last Asian games held in China and silver medal (team event) in World Championship held in Italy under her tutelage.
