Purohit took charge from Shiv Abhilash Bhardwaj, the Acting CMD, at a function in Mumbai which was attended by Atomic Energy Commission Chairman R K Sinha, BARC Director Sekhar Basu, former NPCIL CMD S K Jain among others.
Purohit was Director (Projects) on the NPCIL Board and has the experience in both indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) and the Light Water Reactors (LWRs) being set up with international cooperation at Kudankulam.
Purohit said ensuring safety in all aspects of nuclear power plants in the country would be his highest priority.
He said no stone would be left unturned in continuing the record of safety demonstrated during the last 42 years of commercial nuclear power generation.
An electrical engineer from HBTI, Kanpur, Purohit graduated from the 17th Batch of Training School of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in 1973.
He started his professional career in running nuclear power plants at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan, and obtained license for operation of these plants from the nuclear regulator.
He has over 38 years of experience and made significant contributions in construction, commissioning, operation as well as renovation and modernisation of nuclear reactors in the country.
