Purulia schoolgirl chosen for CSIR award

A schoolgirl from Purulia district has been selected for this year's Innovation Award by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for a making a cheap and nutritious health drink, 'Homelicks'.

District Magistrate Tanmoy Chakraborty told PTI that 15-year-old Debadrita Mandal, a student of Bongabari Girl's High School, will be given the award for schoolchildren by the CSIR.

Mandal said that she thought of making a cheap, nutritious health drink when she was a student of Class VIII after she was asked by a poor woman what she could do to save her baby from malnourishment.

The health drink was made of wheat, dry milk, sugar and soybean among other ingredients, she said.
 

She said that she sent the research paper on the development of the health drink to CISR after which it received approval.
