Lauding the contribution of over 1.5 million NRIs in the UK, a top Indian diplomat here has said that the influential community should put pressure on their representatives to take upissues concerning India at the British Parliament more vigorously.
Attending an event here last night to celebrate the Republic Day of India, India's deputy High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik also felicitated leading NRI entrepreneur Joginder Sanger, Chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, UK, for his contribution to development of India's art and culture in Britain.
Patnaik also presented a plaque to Sanger on behalf of the Women's Economic Forum.
The plaque described Sanger as "one of the leaders of the decade who created a better world for all".
Patnaik also honoured Sanger with a Shawl and a Certificate on behalf of the Telugu Association, UK, for his contribution to development of India's art and culture in the UK.

Welcoming the gathering at the celebration of the 68th Anniversary of India's Republic Day, Sanger said the new High Commissioner to the UK, Yashvardhan KumarSinha has accepted the invitation to be the Patron of the Bhavan.
Lord Navnit Dholakia, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords said the standard of cultural education at the Bhavan here was much higher and those prevailing in India and lauded the efforts of Dr Nanda Kumara, Executive Director of the Bhavan, in maintaining such high standards.
Lord Bhiku Parik also spoke on the occasion.
