Puthiya Tamizhagam's Krishnasamy to contest from Tenkasi

While PT had been allotted Tenkasi, MMK and IUML will contest from Mayiladuthurai and Vellore constituencies

Press Trust of India Chennai
K Krishnasamy, founder of Dalit-based Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT), part of DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance, would contest the April 24 Lok Sabha polls from Tenkasi (SC) constituency in southern Tamil Nadu.

Krishnasamy announced his party's decision to nominate him at a press conference here.

PT, which supported the AIADMK since the 2011 Assembly polls, parted ways with the ruling party and backed DMK's Kanimozhi during the biennial Rajya Sabha polls last year.

DMK, heading the DPA, has so far allotted one seat each to alliance partners -- Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), PT and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK).

While PT had been allotted Tenkasi in Tirunelveli District, the MMK and IUML will contest from Mayiladuthurai and Vellore constituencies respectively. Tenkasi is held by CPI, which had won it as part of AIADMK-led front in the 2009 polls.

Meanwhile, seat-sharing talks between DMK and Thol Thirumavalavan-led Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) are on at DMK headquarters here.
