Puthussery Ramachandran gets Ezhuthachan award

Noted poet and linguist Puthussery Ramachandran has been selected for this year's Ezhathachan Award, the highest literary honour instituted by the Kerala government.

The Award, in recognition of the writer's valuable contribution to the Malayalam literature, carries a cash of Rs 1.50 lakh, citation and a plaque, Minister for Culture K C Joseph said here today.

The 87-year old Ramachandran, is a scholar of Dravidian linguistic. He is also one of state's literary personalities who took up social issues through their writings.

He also had translated several poems from English,Sanskrit and Tamil to Malayalam.

The Sahitya Akademi has recognized his contributions by giving him the national award for translation. In 2009 Kerala Sahitya Akademi conferred him with the Fellowship, the most distinguished honour of the Academy.
