As a part of the government's bid push towards cashless economy, Maharashtra Public Works Department today said all contractors working for it should henceforth make payments online, including those to the labourers.

The contractors will have to submit a report to the PWD about the mode of payment with Aadhaar number of every labourer, the department said.

As per a Government Resolution issued today, if a labourer, engaged by a contractor, does not have Aadhaar card, the contractor should seek help from local PWD officials and district collectors.

By December 31, the contractors should complete the process of enrolling their labourers for UID number, the GR said.

The contractors are asked to submit a certificate stating that all payments are being made in bank accounts of labourers, linked to the Unique Identification number.
