PWD employee held for misappropriation of funds

A Public Works Department (PWD) employee was today arrested by the ACB for allegedly misappropriating money to the tune of Rs 31.68 lakh by preparing fake bills in the name of non-existing companies.

The accused, Ashok Vitthal Nachankar, worked as a store-keeper with the PWD in South Ratnagiri division.

He submitted bills of "ghost" companies showing procurement of material for various works and got them sanctioned from the department, ACB's Deputy Superintendent of Police Virag Parkar said in a statement issued here.

The accused, arrested by the ACB from Ratnagiri, has been charged under sections 465 (forgery), 467, 471 and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he said.
 

The case is being investigated by the Ratnagiri unit of ACB, he said, adding, that during the probe they will try to find out if senior officials were also involved in swindling of funds.
