PWD employee held for taking Rs 30,000 bribe from Cong leader

A Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) employee was today caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a former office-bearer of the state Congress, by Lokayukta police here.

PWD cartographer Rajnikant Kesri was caught taking the bribe from former state Congress general secretary Inder Prajapat at his office at Old Palasia area, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B S Parihar told reporters.

"We laid the trap following a complaint lodged by Prajapat," he added.

Prajapat had sought permission to open a bar at his restaurant at a shopping mall from Excise Department, which in turn asked the PWD to measure the restaurant and certify that it had adequate space according to the book for opening the bar.
 

"However, Kesri asked Prajapat to shell out Rs 50,000 as bribe for the certificate from PWD. Later on, the deal was settled for Rs 30,000," Parihar added.

He said that the accused has been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation are on.
