PWD engineer caught accepting Rs 45,000 bribe

An executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) here was today caught accepting a bribe of Rs 48,000 from a contractor, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said today.

The accused was identified as Shrikant Dekate.

The complainant in the case had constructed a building of the Revenue Department at village Bamni near here. When the contractor approached Dekate with a request to sanction his bill of Rs 24 lakh, the officer demanded a bribe of Rs 48,000 at the rate of 2 per cent of the total bill, the ACB said.

The contractor told him that he was ready to pay the bribe amount, but later approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.
 

A trap was laid and Dekate was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 48,000 at his office on Potegaon Road here this afternoon, the ACB release said.

The raid was conducted by a team led by Police Inspector D W Mandalwar.
