PWD official arrested for taking bribe in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Anti-Corruption Bureau today arrested an officer of Public Works Department in Bijapur district while allegedly accepting abribeof Rs 1 lakh.

Sub-divisional Officer Kunwar Lal Rangari (56), posted at Madded, was arrested while taking themoneyfrom the road contractor K Bhavesh Rao, an ACB official said.

Rao had an executed contract for the construction of a road on Chherpalli-Dhepla route. Rangari sought a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from him for handing over a cheque of Rs 18,25,235 for the sanctioned bills. Later the amount was negotiated down to Rs 2.45 lakh.

The ACB laid a trap and caught Rangari while accepting the first instalment of Rs one lakh at his office, the officer said.
 

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him.
