Maharashtra Public Works Department officials Satish Chikhalikar and Jagadish Wagh, arrested in a bribery case on May 2, were today produced before the court as their police remand expired, and were sent to judicial custody till May 30.

Chikhalikar, an executive engineer, and Wagh, a branch manager, were trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 from a contractor for passing a bill. Following their arrests, ACB has discovered huge assets owned by the two officials and their relatives.

The investigation so far shows that Chikhalikar's assets are worth about Rs 17 crore, while Wagh is worth Rs 2 crore.

Meanwhile, when asked about the sudden transfer of his officer-on-special duty (OSD) Sandeep Bedse, PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told reporters here that Bedse himself wanted to return to his original government post, as he was "fed up" with the allegations made by opposition politicians in connection with the Chikhlikar affair.
