Maharashtra Public Works Department has decided to create a separate tribal wing to expedite the pending proposals of construction of schools and hostels for the students.

The wing will commence its work from December 1, a government resolution (GR) said.

Currently, such proposals are taken into consideration along with other proposals and they take longer for completion. The creation of tribal wing within the PWD, with total 21 posts, would support 529 schools and 491 hostels.

Out of these, 206 schools and 54 hostels are under construction but growing number of proposals before the PWD has affected the chances of getting it cleared earlier. Hence, the PWD has decided to create the wing so that the proposals would be cleared speedily, the GR released on Friday said.

There will be one chief engineer, two superintendent engineers and other 18 posts of the wing. Nashik and Nagpur will have the offices of superintendent engineers, it said.

The state government has asked the local offices of the PWD that if their existing premises are filled, then the tribal wing should find sufficient place on rent and start its functioning.
