The Delhi government's Public Works Department has decided to appoint a consultant to design a ramp at the Inter-State Bus Terminal to reduce traffic congestion at the Kashmiri Gate area.

Huge traffic jams occur frequently on Ring Road between the ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Hanuman Mandir during the morning and evening rush hours when interstate buses coming from Mukarba Chowk take U-turn there.

"The PWD has decided to appoint a consultant to make structural design of the proposed up-ramp at ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Once the up-ramp is constructed, it will reduce the traffic congestion near the Kashmiri Gate and Nigam Bodh Ghat," said a senior government official.

As per the plan, the proposed ramp will merge into the existing elevated road that descends in front the inter-state bus terminal.

The official said that the buses coming to ISBT from North Delhi's Burari, Majnu-ka-Tilla, take a U-turn at the ground level before turning left to enter the terminal, causing traffic jam.

The project, which is expected to be completed in two years, will allow the buses coming to ISBT to directly enter the terminal.
