PWF urges CM to procure Rs 300 cr from Centre for relief works

The five-party People's Welfare Front (PWF) has urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to ensure that the Centre released Rs 300 crores as assistance to Puducherry to tackle the situation arising out of torrential rains in the Union Territory.

CPI, CPI (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Revolutionary Socialist Party and MDMK are constituents of the PWF.

A memorandum presented jointly by the leaders of the constituent parties of the front to the Chief Minister today said that a solatium of Rs 5 lakhs should be presented to each of the families of those killed in rain-related incidents.

The other pleas of the front were: twenty kilo rice to each of the families without consideration of the area of their residences, a cash relief of Rs 5000 to each family, cash compensation of Rs 25,000 for fully house and Rs 10,000 for partially damaged house.

Compensation for loss of paddy, horticultural crops and tapioca among other crops in the rains, revival of the French designed Syndicat Agricole adopted for maintenance of the water bodies and desilting of water bodies.

The leaders who signed the memorandum were R Viswanathan (CPI), R Rajangam (CPI-Marxist), Deva Pozhilan (VCK), A Chandrasekaran (MDMK) and K Lenin (RSP).
