Press Trust of India
A delegation People's Welfare Front (PWF) today presented a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of the Pondicherry University demanding quota 27 per cent quota for local students in all streams of courses.

The memorandum was signed by R Viswanathan (CPI), R Rajangam (CPIM), Deva Pozhilan (VCK), A Chandrasekaran (MDMK) and K Lenin (Revolutionary Socialist Party).

The memorandum said students belonging to Union Territory and more specifically to the under privileged sections are not able to get admission for higher education in private institutions here and the University alone was only hope for the students.

The university was set up basically to promote higher education and make it accessible to the local students.

Presently the university has earmarked the quota of reservation only in 20 courses although the institution was offering courses in 120 different streams.

There should be implementation of 27 percent quota for local students during the 2016-2017 academic year, the memorandum pleaded.
