The toll in the fresh earthquake that struck several parts of India yesterday has risen to 22, including 19 deaths in Bihar.

"A total of 19 people have died in Bihar in yesterday's quake," a Home Ministry spokesperson said here today.

Two others lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh and one died in West Bengal.

The central government has assured the affected states of all assistance required in the quake-hit areas.

However, no request has come so far.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Air Force have been kept on standby by the government to respond to any request from Nepal to deal with the situation arising out of yesterday's quake. However, so far no request for help has come from the Himalayan nation.

Seventy-six people have died and nearly 2,000 injured in the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal yesterday, days after the devastating temblor of April 25.
