A qazi was arrested here today for allegedly preparing a fake "Nikahnama" (marriage contract) favouring a rape accused against whom a chargesheet was filed in a local court, police said.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Umar Qadri (45).
The woman named in the contract told them that she never married the accused Pervez Ali (28), who has been in jail since the last four months for raping her, a police official said.
Police have examined the Nikahnama and found it to be fake, said district prosecution officer Mohammad Akram Sheikh.
A chargesheet had already been filed against Ali in local court, he said.
Qazi was remanded in police custody for one day, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
