A special court has sent six students, who secured admission in the Government Medical College here after allegedly purchasing question papers of Common Entrance Test (CET) 2012, to judicial remand.
The Special Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar yesterday sent the six students, out of the identified 12 by the Crime Branch of police investigating the case, to judicial remand in Central Jail here till tomorrow.
Special Judge, Mohan Lal Manhas, also sent six out of nine parents allegedly involved in the multi-crore paper selling scam to the jail on judicial remand till January 23.
The court directed the Crime Branch to produce the students and parents before it after the expiry of the respective remand periods.
The Crime Branch, which has filed chargesheet against 25 persons in the scam, produced most of the accused including former chairman Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer and broker Sajjad Ahmad Bhat before the court.
The accused included the six students and as many parents who simultaneously moved interim applications for the bail through their counsels.
The court sent the students and the parents, including four father-son duos, to Central Jail here, while directing the Crime Branch to file the objections to their bail pleas.
The six students include Ahmad Faraz, son of Mohammad Iqbal; Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din; Naveed Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat; Khursheed Ahmad Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar; Yasir Yousuf Hajam, son of late Mohammad Yousuf Hajam and Yasir Yousuf Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar - all from Bijbehara in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
The Crime Branch informed the court that three of the remaining six students would be produced on the next hearing on January 28, while the other three were minors and would be produced before the competent court in due course of time.
The six students include Sadam Farooq, Bazila Bilal Vaid, Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Saiqa, Humaira Shakeel and Shahida Shafi.
The parents sent to jail include four hailing from Bijbehara - Bilal Ahmad Vaid, Bashir Ahmad Dar, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Lone and Mohammad Yousuf Dar, while Mohammad Iqbal Reshi belongs to Nai Basti Anantnag and Mohammad Shafi Bandh is a resident of the neighbouring Awantipora district.
Farooq Ahmad Shah, father of Sadam Farooq and one of the nine parents named in chargesheet, has already been arrested.
Meanwhile, the prime accused in the scam, Peer and the broker Bhat have moved fresh applications for bail, for which the court directed the Crime Branch to file objections on January 21.
