Racket involving production of spurious ghee busted

A ghee adulteration racket was today busted with the arrest of four persons here, police said.

Additional commissioner of police (Bengaluru East) Seemanth Kumar Singh said AiyappaSwamy from K P Agrahara in the city was the kingpinof the gang that started the business of spurious ghee production and sale of 'Nandini,' ghee, a popular brand of the Karnataka MilkFederation.

He said a complaint was received from the KMF that spurious ghee was being sold in themarket in the name of their popular brand.

"Sincepublic health and the popularity of Nandini brand were at stake, we investigated and busted the racket," Singh said.
 

Aiyappa Swamy alias Mani along with Eagle Enterprises' manager Maruthi, Nandini parlour agent Shivakumar and Sukumaran from Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu were partners in crime, he said.

To avoid getting caught, Mani used to produce ghee inTamil Nadu and assigned Shivakumar to circulate the product inthe market, the police official said.

The ghee comprised a little amount of ghee, a good quantity of palm oil and vegetable oils.The production cost was less while the returns were more, Singh said.
