A jawan of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) today allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself from his service weapon at the forces' camp here.
Officials said the incident occurred at about 4:30 AM inside the Phaphamau-based camp of the 101st battalion of the RAF when constable Manoj Kumar (24) shot himself from his official self loading rifle.
They said Kumar allegedly pointed the barrel of the gun under his chin and fired two rounds which instantly killed him.

"The force has ordered for a Court of Inquiry into the incident which looks to be a case of suicide, prima facie. The exact reasons for Kumar taking the extreme step are being investigated and his colleagues at the camp are being questioned," they said.
Kumar hailed from the Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh and had joined paramilitary CRPF in year 2000 and recently joined the special counter-riot unit-- RAF.
Local police officials and senior Central Reserve Police Force officers have reached the spot soon after the incident, they said.
The blue-dungaree uniform donning RAF has been created as an exclusive unit under the CRPF and a battalion (about 1,000 personnel) is permanently based here.
