Trouble seems to be brewing in SCB Medical College and Hospital here over alleged ragging and subsequent assault on a member of the college anti-ragging committee, who is also the caretaker of the students' hostels.
Local police officials today said that while the assaulted caretaker has brought this to their notice, a group of students alleging that the caretaker has misbehaved with them, are now demanding action against him.
According to the police, some members of the anti-ragging committee comprising senior doctors had spotted two senior students of the college in the fresher's hostel on the night of September 17. When the matter was brought to the notice of the college Principal the following day, the two erring students were let off with reprimand after they apologised.

However, the Principal had asked the hostel caretaker Braja Nanda to inform the conduct of the erring students to their respective parents. But a group of students yesterday prevailed upon Nanda asking him not to follow the instructions of the Principal and threatened him of dire consequences if he didn't oblige.
"When I expressed my inability to defy the Principal's orders, the unruly students attacked me, ransacked my office and locked me inside the room for nearly an hour," Nanda alleged after he was rescued by the College Principal in presence of local police.
Nanda has made a written complaint about it to the Principal asking the latter to forward it to the local Mangalabag police station to be treated as an FIR. Nanda has also submitted an advance copy of the same with the police, confirmed local police inspector S K Sinha.
Anticipating that more trouble was in store for them, the medicos later in the evening met the principal and demanded disciplinary action against Nanda alleging that he misbehaved with them.
Despite repeated attempts to get his comments, College Principal Dr Prakash Mohapatra remained incommunicado as his cell phone was switched off. Journalists are not allowed to enter inside the Hospital campus without prior permission.
