Fourteen-year-old Fide Master Raghunandan K S of Bengalury (ELO 2295) stunned Armenian Grand Master Karen H Grigoryan (ELO 2604) in the fourth round of the 9th Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament here today.

Playing with white pieces, Raghunandan opted for the Bogo Indian defence and held a slight advantage in the opening. Grigoryan offered him a draw on the 15th move which he refused and tried to activate his knight at a better position.

In the middle of the crucial clash, Raghunandan sacrificed a knight for a pawn, which his opponent took and paid the penalty as the Indian boy won the game in just 25 moves to pull off the biggest victory of the day.

In other significant results, Hemant Sharma (ELO 2257) of Delhi defeated GM Mikhail Mozharov (ELO 2560) of Russia in 25 moves.

Top Seed Popov Ivan (ELO 2650) of Russia was stunned by Ram S Krishnan (ELO 2234) of Tamil Nadu in a third round clash.

Ram, with white, faced modern defense from Popov. The position was equally poised till the middle game, but a couple of wrong moves of knights by Popov cost him the game.

But in the fourth round the Indian was beaten by Tajikistan's GM Amonatov Farrukh (ELO 2614).

Other results (4th round): Shailesh Dravid bt GM Rahman Ziaur (BAN); Swapnil Dhopade bt Chirag Satkar.
