In a surprising turn of events, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi happened to have a chance meeting with Gandhi family's 'purohit' (priest), who had apparently been associated with Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi, who had reached here yesterday to address party leaders, met purohit Rajendra Nath and his nephew Prateek Chaturvedi.

Nath informed Gandhi that his ancestors had been associated with the Nehru-Gandhi family since the days of freedom fighter Motilal Nehru.

The priest family, claiming to belong to Kashmiri Pandits community, also showed Rahul the handwritten messages and signatures of all the leaders in the Gandhi family, till former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The purohits informed the leader that they had preserved the messages and signatures of the Gandhi family members.

Rahul Gandhi also put his signature under those of his ancestors and invited us to visit him, Chaturvedi said.

Chaturvedi added that he dug out the Gandhi family documents when he came to know that Rahul Gandhi was coming to the city.
