Owing to elections in five states, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has put off his visit to China which was to start from January 15.

The visit by Rahul-led Congress delegation will now take place after the assembly elections at mutually-convenient dates, party leader Anand Sharma said tonight.

He said the Congress had sensitised the Communist Party Of China (CPC), which had invited the Congress delegation, to reschedule the week-long visit after the election dates were announced.

The host was told that presence of Gandhi and other senior leaders was necessary in the country in view of the elections, Sharma said.
