With Rahul Gandhi's appointment as Congress president appearing imminent, the party's Gujarat unit chief, Bharatsinh Solanki, today said scores of party workers were in favour of Rahul's elevation as it was the "need of the hour".
"It is a strong sentiment among scores of Congress workers from Gujarat and other parts of the country that Rahul should take over as the party president to take on the dictatorial tendencies of the Centre and forces of communal polarisation and social division unleashed by the RSS.
"It is the need of the hour in the run-up to the crucial Assembly elections in five states, including Gujarat, next year," he said.
