Former External Affairs Minister S M Krishna today said the assertion by Rahul Gandhi that he is not going to shirk from the mandate the party may give him and would abide by it "is a silver lining to millions of Congressmen across the country."

"This is yet another peep into his character that when the situation is adverse by all indications, his willingness to lead the party shows his leadership quality," the former Karnataka Chief Minister said in a statement.

"He has a long innings to go. He is assembling his team. Experience will make him learn many things. All of us wish him well," Krishna said.

He noted that Gandhi's assertion comes contrary to media speculation about the Congress Vice-President's reluctance from being the Prime Ministerial candidate of Congress.
