Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today visited the family of the man, who was lynched for allegedly eating beef, at a village in Greater Noida and denounced the politics of hate.

"Hatred between our people weakens India. We have to stand together and fight those who spread it"

"It is very sad to see the trust and harmony built over decades, destroyed by the politics of hate", Rahul said in a series of tweets.

"Was touched by the desire of people in Bisada to maintain harmony. This spirit will help the country go through tough times", Rahul said in another tweet.

The tweets followed his meeting the family of Mohd Akhlaq at Bishada village and offering his deepest condolences.

Congress has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his "silence" and condemn the lynching incident.

Iqlakh was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish critically injured by a 200-strong mob which had barged into their house on Monday night following rumours that the family had consumed beef. Cow slaughter is banned in Uttar Pradesh.
