The Lokayukta police today conducted a raid at the house of a Patwari (revenue official) here and recovered assets worth more than Rs 2 crore which are allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.

"Police have recovered assets over Rs 2 crore from Patwari, Sanjeev Panchal. The assets include Rs 75,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs. 2.25 lakh", said Lokayukta Inspector Vasant Shrivastava.

The sleuths also found records of five to six bank accounts which are in name of Panchal and his family members, and are trying to gather information on his bank lockers.

Panchal was posted at Mahidpur Halka in the district and has been under the scanner of Lokayukta police for last three months.

"It was calculated that Patwari has earned a total (income) of Rs 20 lakh from his salary in his 23 years of service so far, but seems to have assets of more than Rs 2 crore", Shrivastava said, adding further investigations are on.
