A day after Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal criticised the Rail Budget as "huge disappointment", his son-in-law and also the state's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon hailed the proposals mooted by Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.

"It is a matter of great pleasure and moment of joy for the people of Punjab in general and particularly the border districts of the state that the Railway Ministry has announced the most awaited link between Patti and Ferozepur," Kairon told reporters here.

"It will provide quicker movement of defence personnel and equipment during emergencies," he said, adding that the rail link will boost industrialisation and tourism of the border districts of Punjab.

However, the chief minister termed the Budget as "totally anti-people and directionless."

"It was unfortunate that rather than giving the people any relief, the Centre has put an indirect burden on them through this irrational budget," Badal told reporters here in Muktsar.
