A rail blockade was staged for two hours at Bamunigaon railway station near Boko affecting movement of trains, including passenger trains Jhajha Express to Odisha, Bihar- bound Gaya Express and West Bengal-bound Malda Express, official sources said.
A road blockade was also organized on the National Highway 37 at Mirza freezing the movement of vehicles from both sides for three hours, the sources said.
The Forum of six Non-tribal Organisations, including Garo Students Union, blocked the railway tracks and the road demanding that the Garo villages be excluded from the upcoming Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council election.
The trains via neighbouring Goalpara district were controlled at different stations, including Guwahati, Bongaigaon and other stations, railway sources said.
