Rail services were today halted from Banihal belt in Kashmir due to a series of protests following the death of a trucker, who was critically injured in a petrol bomb attack, railway officials said.
Rail services between Banihal (Ramban district of Jammu region) to Baramulla (Kashmir valley) was suspended after protests in Anantnag and Awantipora areas of the Valley, they said, adding, the step was taken as a precautionary measure.
Authorities today imposed restrictions in eight areas of Kashmir and placed several separatist leaders under house arrest in view of a strike called after the death of Zahid, a truck conductor who succumbed to his injuries yesterday at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
