Students from Jawaharlal Nehru University distributed blankets and clothes to the families who were forced to live out in open in this bitting cold after their shanties were razed to the ground during Railways demolition drive in Mansarovar Park.

The students distributed relief items to the families living in plastic tents on New Year's eve to help them fight the freezing weather.

They demanded proper rehabilitation of people whose homes were destroyed.

"We demand that the MCD and the Railways take responsibility of the rehabilitation of these people who have been made homeless in this chilling cold. Most of them have been living here for at least a decade, providing them adequate housing is the responsibility of the government," said Anubhuti Agnes Bara, Vice President, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union.

About 150 families were rendered homeless after their makeshift hutments were demolished last week by the railways alleging the colony was illegal.
