"Railway has sent offers for land in three locations for construction of silos, which would be of the capacity of 50,000 tonne each, Mullick told PTI.
The locations were in Bankura, West Midnapore and East Midnapore districts, comprising seven acre each. The silos would be built near railway stations for ease of movement by railway rakes.
After approval of the locations, the state would have to provide the land and invite tenders within three months.
Each silo would cost around Rs 50 crore to construct and would be implemented by the Food Corporation of India under the Private Entrepreneur Guarantee Scheme, the minister said.
The state has a foodgrain storage capacity of 50,000 tonne. The state planned to add 5 lakh tonne capacity over the next three years.
The FCI in April had notified 10 sites in states for construction of silos to be declared as mandis enabling farmers to directly sell their produce there.
