In a rare instance, a Special court has convicted a railway official within a year of his arrest for taking bribe awarding him the maximum imprisonment of seven years under Prevention of Corruption Act.
"The Special Judge, CBI cases, Dehradun, has convicted Ramvir Singh Solanki, then SSE, Railway, Kashipur, under section 7, 13(2) read with 13(1) (d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sentenced him to seven years of Rigorous Imprisonment," CBI Spokesperson R K Gaur said here today.
He said the convict has also been slapped with Rs 40,000 fine.

"CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed on January 10, 2016, while accepting the bribe. After investigation, a charge sheet...Was filed against the accused on February 29, 2016. Charges were framed under the said sections," Gaur said.
