Railways is mulling to extend Buddhist train service to other shrines in the country, Lok Sabha was informed today.

"Odisha government has approached Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation to extend one trip of the Mahaparinirvan Express train to Odisha state to cover a few important Buddhist sites there," Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a written reply.

He said the proposal was being considered.

When asked if there was any proposal to introduce Chennai Buddhist Shuttle to facilitate tourists from Sri Lanka, Chowdhury said there was no such proposal.

The Mahaparinirvan Express connects prominent Buddhist shrines in Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
