Railways launches drive against drugging

With the number of cases of looting passengers after drugging them rises during the festival season, the Railways has launched a drive against it and asked the travellers to refrain from sharing food items and beverages from strangers on trains and stations.

The Delhi Division of the Northern railway has also issued an advisory to passengers to beware of such miscreants who mix tablets meant for drugging in their eatables to loot them.

According to the advisory, passengers should refrain from sharing food items and beverages from strangers on trains and stations.

The drive is going on in the wake of rise in such cases during festival season, a senior Northern Railway official said.
 

The Railways is also making regular announcements regarding the same on the public address system at important railway stations, he added.

During the drive against drugging, Railway Protection Force (RPF) along with Government Railway Police (GRP) had arrested one person with tablets allegedly meant for drugging passengers.

Sonu, a resident of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, was held with the tablets meant for drugging passengers by mixing them in the eatables of the passengers at Sahibabad Railway Station, the official said.

The RPF-GRP team received information that a person suspected to be carrying tablets meant for drugging the passengers was roaming at the West End of platform no 2.

He was apprehended and tablets meant for drugging were recovered from him, the official said, adding that the accused was handed over to GRP at Ghaziabad and a FIR was registered.
