The last surviving vintage steam locomotive will have a fresh lease of life after remaining out of service for several years, with Railways launching the service from tomorrow especially for tiger sighting.
Tourists travelling to Alwar in Rajasthan can enjoy the now rare steam engine with the service, called 'Akbar', starting from tomorrow for about six months, giving an opportunity for tiger-spotting at Sariksa National Park near Alwar.
The 48-year-old steam engine will undertake the 138-km-long journey from Delhi Cantonment Station with two coaches and travel to Alwar through Rewari in Haryana.
As per the schedule, the train will travel from October this year to April next year on every second and fourth Saturdays. Onboard hospitality is being provided by IRCTC.
After many years of remaining out of service, 'Akbar' was restored and overhauled at the Amritsar workshop. The steal loco can travel up to a maximum speed of 110 kmph.
The steam engine was recently in news after it was shown in the Bollywood film 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'.
