The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has punished two of its officials for carrying out extortion from passengers at the old Delhi Railway Station.
They officials, who wore civilian clothes, collected money from passengers while checking their luggage at the station, the Railway Ministry said in a statement.
After receiving complaints from passengers at the baggage scanning machine on October 15, A N Mishra, Additional Chief Security Commissioner, Northern Railway along with his team paid a surprise visit.
"Four persons were found in civil dress checking bags of passengers. They were collecting money from passengers," the statement said.
"In this connection, Inspector, Delhi-Main and duty officer both of the RPF have been attached to line (out of active duty). Other staff on duty has been taken up departmentally. RPF believes in zero tolerance to corruption," the statement said.
The team apprehended two persons, one of whom was discharged from home guard duty six to seven years ago, while the other was a serving staff deployed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at New Delhi Railway Station, it said.
A complaint has been forwarded to the GRP under the Railways Act.
Railways has also asked passengers to dial RPF helpline number 182 in case of any misdemeanour by RPF during their journey.
