Railways spent Rs 315 cr on cleanliness in 2015-16: Govt

Railways has spent about Rs 315 crore on cleanliness and sanitation at all stations, including platforms, circulating area, waiting rooms, toilets and tracks within station limit, during 2015-16, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, special cleanliness campaign was launched by Railways on October 2, 2014, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.

He said events on cleanliness are planned and organised regularly to improve and maintain cleanliness at rail premises including toilets, platforms and tracks at stations in the mega cities.

On completion of one year of Swachh Bharat Mission, theme-based cleanliness drives have been launched by Railways from September 25, 2015.
 

He said campaigns for increasing the awareness and participation from all sections, including railway staff, rail users and social organisations, were organised at many major stations.
